How to remove video metadata

Choose a supported clip

Select an MP4, MOV or WebM up to 64 MiB. The file extension alone does not guarantee that its codecs and tracks are supported.

Copy the tracks locally

On first use, your browser downloads about 31 MiB of processing software. It inspects your file and copies supported encoded tracks without uploading them.

Check playback before sharing

Download the checked copy and play it from beginning to end. Confirm picture, sound and orientation, and keep the original for subtitles or chapters.

Before cleaning

An MP4 may include a title, descriptive creation tags, chapter markers and a separate subtitle track.

After cleaning

Supported video and audio tracks are copied into a cleaned container. Supported descriptive tags, chapters and the subtitle track are omitted; captions already in the frames remain.

What to check in a cleaned video

  1. Play the downloaded copy and check picture, audio, orientation and timing.
  2. Inspect the downloaded container with a media-information tool if you need an independent metadata review.
  3. Remember that voices, visible details, invisible watermarks, encoded-packet metadata and external records are outside container-tag removal.

Does this reduce video quality?

Supported encoded tracks are copied without re-encoding, so there is no new compression pass. The container changes; the complete output file is not byte-identical to the original.

Can I keep subtitles and chapters?

No. This cleaner omits subtitle and timed-data tracks, attached cover art and chapters. Keep your source file if those features matter.

Why might an MP4 or MOV fail?

These are container formats that can hold many codecs and track layouts. Unsupported or encrypted audio/video tracks, damaged containers, size limits or failed output checks can prevent a download.

Is all identifying information removed?

No. The tool targets supported descriptive container metadata. Required playback information and identifying information in the content, encoded packets or external systems can remain.
